Ask people what their favorite season is, and the answers are split fairly evenly between fall, spring, and summer. Not surprisingly, only around 7% of Americans say they prefer winter. These facts can be important to home improvement marketing, which we’ll get to in a minute.
How old you are and where you live plays a role in your favorite season, but the statistics make it clear that people enjoy warm days that allow them to get outside and enjoy more activity.
Research also shows people are happier in warmer months. One study looked at Twitter feeds for 2.4 million people for two years. It found that longer days and warmer months correlated to posts that were generally happier and more positive than posts in the winter were.
What does this have to do with home improvement marketing? People who are happier and more active may be more willing to delve into home improvement projects. Plus, all this love of sun may draw people to their windows, increasing the chance they’ll notice a need for replacement, repairs, or new window décor.
Home improvement companies can increase those chances by engaging in marketing that includes summer themes. Here are some ideas to get you started:
- Host a summer window contest. Have people post pictures of their windows with summer décor, showing the garden outside, or allowing warm sun into the room. Seeing all those windows may encourage people to make improvements to theirs!
- Post summer fun content. Write blog posts about the best summer activities in the area to encourage local SEO or share a bit from your own vacations or activities to create authenticity on social media.
- Give practical advice. Let people know what they can or should do to care for their homes this season or save on utility expenses as the weather heats up.
