How Local Listing Accuracy Impacts You

Posted On: July 7, 2016

Local search is an effective way to bring in more customers, especially since many people look at local listings on their smartphone or tablet. Without a local search listing, you might be missing out on potential business because customers will connect with competitors at the top of the search results.

Having a local listing is just the first step. It is also essential to be sure that your listing is accurate! When a customer searches for keywords that are related to your business, does your listing show up in the top three results? The accuracy of your listing will impact the placement of your listing in the search results.

Google knows that the only way to keep people coming back to search is if accurate information is available in the search results. If a local business has moved or gone out of business, then customers might be disappointed by the inaccurate information. For example, if a customer repeatedly contacts businesses that have incorrect information, then it is likely that the customer will stop using Google.

Establishing Trust with Google

When you establish trust with Google, then it increases the chances that Google will list your business at the top of the local search results. This trust is built by providing accurate information in your Google listing and ensuring that other online information matches with exactness.

The Google Bots crawl online resources such as directory listings, review sites, news sites, government websites, and more. If the address or phone number on these sites is different than your Google business listing, then it might have a negative impact on your local search results. Even something as small as the formatting of your address or a suite number at the end of the address can decrease the trust with Google.

By aligning the accuracy of all of your online listings, you can build Google’s confidence that the information is correct. On the other hand, conflicting information in the online listings can decrease the likelihood that Google will rank your local listing. Google doesn’t want to show your company information if the contact details might be inaccurate.

The best way to fix your listing accuracy is by doing a few Google searches to see what’s out there. If you already know that there is bad information published online, then you can search for that incorrect information. Find the sources that bring up the inconsistent information, then fix the details on that website.

It might sound a bit tedious, but it’s worth the effort to build trust with Google. You can either block out time in your schedule to clean up your listings, or contact us at Ring Ring Marketing for help.
