Once you get to where your are appearing consistently across the major directories, you should concentrate on how you produce your site content. It can be tempting to try to get an edge by using what are called “Black Hat Tactics” to try to trick Google’s algorithm’s, but most often, the tricks end up getting people’s sites penalized in search for a few months to years.
So what kind of content should you produce instead?
Google has two algorithm’s that you want to please, the one primarily concerned with the quality of your content is called Panda. What Panda tries to accomplish is rewarding the sites who have original high quality content that is the most likely to satisfy searchers.
To best satisfy Panda, you want to make sure that your content is not “spun” (copied) from other sites. You also want to make sure that if you have multiple sites (for different locations) or multiple pages (serving different physical locations) that the content on those sites or pages is unique.
In a perfect world, to satisfy Panda, you would want the content to be tailored to serve the customers in that specific location instead of just offering slightly modified content similar to all of your others sites or pages.
The other algorithm you need to understand is called Penguin. Penguin is primarily concerned with where are the links pointing to your website. Did you build a lot of spam links to artificially inflate your backlinks. Did you purchase these links?
If an SEO agency promises that they can get you highly ranked on first page of Google within less than 6 months, you have to walk away. They are truly using black-hat tactics that can get your website penalized by Google.
