Yes, that’s an anticlimactic headline. We know. But we thought it was most fitting to represent the latest Google Penguin algorithm update, which went into effect and then didn’t have much… effect.
As you’ll recall, Penguin was one of the big revisions to the Google algorithm, a change intended to punish the rankings of spammy sites and sites that use black-hat (as in deceptive) SEO tactics.
The changes were launched in May, but as many industry experts noted, a lot of spammy sites didn’t see much change in their rankings. Some did, but as Google noted, the changes affected less than 2.5 percent of U.S.-based English search queries.
What does this mean to you? Well, regardless of the results from this particular revision, Google remains fully committed to hunting down spammy/questionable sites and hitting them hard for bad practices.
From low-quality content to keyword stuffing, anything that Google thinks smells funny could fuel a drop from the first page of search results to the fifth, or sixth, or worse. Audit your site carefully to make sure your site isn’t playing with fire. Ring Ring Marketing can help you be sure everything you’re doing will keep Google happy.
